Humanities Grants are currently closed. A decision to open this program cannot be made until funding levels are received after the federal FY26 budget has been passed.

Humanities Grants emphasize collaboration among cultural, educational, and community-based organizations and institutions in order to serve Michigan’s people with public humanities programming. These grants play a vital role in defining our culture, our state, our community, and ourselves. They are intended to connect us to Michigan’s rich cultural heritage and historical resources through initiatives that help the people of our state reason together and learn from one another.

2025 Humanities Grants

Due to the delay in congressional approval of a 2025 federal budget, we are making an adjustment to our funding opportunity process. No grant guidelines or applications will be released until after the federal budget has been approved. After the federal budget has been approved, guidelines and applications will be released within 30 days.

If you have any questions or concerns about this change, please feel free to contact Jennifer Rupp, President and CEO.

Thank you for all that you do for public humanities in Michigan.

Maximum Humanities Grant Request: $20,000

Funding is based on available resources. Awards may be less than the total amount requested.
