SUMMARY:ASR Cruisin' Through the Decades: Live Music: 70s - Rook
DESCRIPTION:Join the Hamburg Township Library for the Adult Summer Reading ‘Cruisin’ Through the Decades: 60s\, 70s & 80s’ Live Music Concert Series.  In June there will be music of the 60s\, in July music of the 70s and in August the music of the 80s.  This is an outdoor concert that will take place by the Library in the park area by the pavilion. Bring a friend!  Bring a blanket or settle in on your own lawn chair and listen to some great music from the 1960s.  Bring your own Carry-Out and enjoy the fun! SUMMARY:Underground Railroad Days
DESCRIPTION:This annual festival\, co-sponsored by URSCC and the Village of Vandalia\, celebrates the UGRR in this community.  URSCC hosts guided tours of the Kentucky Slave Raid of 1847\, open houses at three UGRR sites\, Civil War soldiers encampment\, displays\, and music.  The Village of Vandalia sponsors vendors\, food\, and a community church service on Sunday morning.  The James E. Bonine House\, Bonine Carriage House\, and the Stephen Bogue House will be open for tours.  New this year is the opening of third floor of the Bonine Carriage House\, where freedom seekers were sheltered after 1850.  Admission and parking are free.

DESCRIPTION:Loads of surprises\, comedy and goofy sound effects combine in this perfect complement to learning The Scientific Method. Featuring wacky and off-the-wall\, hands-on lessons\, audience members discover that simple household items can be used to perform quirky and crazy science experiments. Science has never been so much fun! \nSingle tickets for this event are $10 including fees. Children ages 2 & under are free but must have a comp ticket reserved by calling the box office. Discounts for groups of 5+ are also available by calling the box office at 517.278.6029. Ticket price includes popcorn and juice at intermission. SUMMARY:Sloan Museum of Discovery Juneteenth Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Juneteenth is now a Federal Holiday. The Flint community has celebrated every year for the past 50 years! Sloan Museum and Longway Planetarium are honored to partner and host a portion of the Juneteenth festivities for a 3rd year on their campus. On June 16\, 2023\, the Sloan Museum of Discovery will hold their Freedom Fund Youth Dinner. The Juneteenth celebration traditionally begins in remembrance and honor of the nearly 1\,500 children slaughtered in Soweto\, South Africa\, on June 16\, 1976\, protesting against Apartheid! Thus\, beginning the end of apartheid ‘The Children’s Brigade” who were painfully hosed and jailed by police during the Civil Rights Movement\, The youth played a powerful role in moving the Civil Rights protest to a successful conclusion. This tribute will be led by the children with the support of elder leadership. Dinner will be provided\, and entertainment. \nFunding for this program was provided by Michigan Humanities – Bridging Michigan Grant. SUMMARY:Black History 101 Mobile Museum
DESCRIPTION:The Black History 101 Mobile Museum is on a national tour celebrating 50 Years of Hip Hop culture and is coming to the Don Dodge Auditorium. This building is across the street from the Main Library/Port Huron Branch at 200 Grand River Avenue. The Black History 101 Mobile Museum is a national award-winning traveling exhibit that educates and informs the public about the rich and diverse history of African Americans. This national tour will make over 50 stops in 18 states between MLK Day and Juneteenth. Drop in during tour hours at any time to view this vital part of history. The museum’s founder\, Dr. Khalid el-Hakim\, will be giving a presentation at 1 PM. \nThe exhibit will showcase over 150 original artifacts reflecting the evolution of Hip Hop culture and its impact on American society\, highlighting the contributions of Black artists and innovators in the genre. This insightful exhibit takes an interesting angle in viewing Hip Hop culture through the lens of social movements such as the Anti-Apartheid Movement\, Stop the Violence Movement\, The Million Man March\, and Black Lives Matter. The exhibit also includes historical and cultural artifacts from the trans-Atlantic Slave Trade\, Jim Crow\, Civil Rights Era\, Black Power\, and Black Arts Movement. \n“We are thrilled to set out on this national tour celebrating 50 years of Hip Hop culture\,” said Dr. Khalid el-Hakim the Founder of the Black History 101 Mobile Museum. “Hip Hop is an integral part of American history and culture\, and we believe that it is important to educate audiences about its origins and its impact on popular culture that has made it a global phenomenon.” \nFunding for this program was provided by Michigan Humanities – Bridging Michigan Grant. DESCRIPTION:If you are a fan of music\, you will want to check out the national\, regional\, and Michigan acts performing on these stages. The huge main stage is the centerpiece of the grounds\, surrounded by great shade trees and in close proximity to food and art vendors\, campsites\, and bathrooms. The Parlor Stage is an intimate indoor venue adjoined to an eatery where you can have breakfast\, lunch\, dinner\, or just come to enjoy the premium live music.
