SUMMARY:Firekeeper's Daughter Book Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join us in the Orchard Room for a book discussion on Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley. \nFirekeeper’s Daughter is the 2023-2024 Great Michigan Read. It’s the story of Daunis\, who is part Ojibwe\, deferring her enrollment at the University of Michigan to care for her mother. She reluctantly becomes involved in the investigation of a series of drug-related deaths. Through the course of the book\, Daunis learns what it means to be a strong Ojibwe woman and how far she’ll go for her community. \nAlthough it is encouraged to read the book ahead of time to fully engage in the discussion\, everyone is welcome to attend. Whether you’ve read Firekeeper’s Daughter or are interested in discussing its themes and cultural significance\, the discussion will be worthwhile. \nCopies of the book are available to borrow both in the Teen Room and on the main level near the New Fiction section. \nThis is a drop-in program. No registration is necessary. \nThe 2023–24 Great Michigan Read is presented by Michigan Humanities and supported by national\, statewide\, and local partners\, including the National Endowment for the Humanities\, The Meijer Foundation\, Library of Michigan\, Image Creative Group\, BiblioBoard\, and Michigan Radio Reads. \nFunding for the Great Michigan Read program is provided by Michigan Humanities.
