Artists have been resourceful in the ways they picture themselves and other artists, whether casually or formally posed, at work or at leisure. Käthe Kollwitz’s unrelenting self description, Alex Katz in sunglasses, Chuck Close’s over life-size face, Cindy Sherman’s role playing, and Lee Friedlander’s reflection, these private/public images reveal each artist’s time and process.
