The Bijou Orchestra

Michigan’s unique pops orchestra is modeled on American theatre orchestras from the early 20th century. The Bijou is the only ensemble regularly performing the historic transcriptions of popular classics that brought Wagner and Beethoven to cities too small to have a symphony. Ragtime, Tin Pan Alley, and Swing era favorites spring to life from authentic historical arrangements, and the orchestra accompanies silent movies with originally compiled scores. With prominent teachers and professors in the group, they are able to present outstanding youth concerts, residencies, and workshops.
