Internationally recognized Detroit trumpeter and “Satchmo-style” vocalist Marcus Belgrave (formerly with Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and guest on NBC’s Tonight Show) leads his octet performing arrangements of Louis Armstrong’s 1920s Hot 5 and 1930s Decca classic jazz recordings plus 1960s hits, including “West End Blues,” “Heebie Jeebies,” “Stardust,” and “Hello Dolly.” Appeals to general audiences. “[Belgrave] joyously puts his own spin on Armstrong’s greatest hits . . . the music comes off fresh” (Mark Stryker, Detroit Free Press).
