Jim plays the vibraphone, an instrument made popular by Lionel Hampton, Milt Jackson, and others. Jim and his group of excellent musicians perform exciting originals and arrangements of classical jazz standards in a straight-ahead style influenced by swing, blues, bebop, and Latin jazz. Jim’s performances range from a soloist and clinicians with school groups to leading a quartet and quintet. “There seems no limit to the range of Cooper’s moods and themes . . . from bop to bossa nova” (Cleveland Jazz Report).
