Past experience: Planned Log Cabin Day at Palmer Park as a Detroit 300 event with professionals from the MHC Touring Directory on June 24, 2001; for 16 years have coordinated Log Cabin Days, and in 2002 at 82 places; many programs & hands-on spinning for schools and fairs, log cabin displays, etc.
 
Suggestions for public humanities projects:
  • 1. A book on log cabins of Michigan
  • 2. A touring program on log cabins to be available on CD or tape with displays.
  • 3. Sponsorship of log cabin essays in schools (Michigan week)
  • 4. A log cabin program with building techniques demonstrated at Mich. State Fair
  • 5. With teachers, development of a log cabin unit for 5th grades all over the state
 
Comments: Archives/library with 1,400 books is in farmhouse on 1860 farm of Civil War veteran Rock S. Edwards with many links to American history. Flax is grown here.
