Past experience: Worked with the Humanities Council on the project "In Pursuit of a Peaceful World." This project required students to study Nobel Peace Prize winners and to use what they learned to create a mock United Nations. They discussed ways in which to make the world more peaceful. They turned this into a radio drama which was performed live. I have taught English as a Second Language for 17 years. When students research a topic that is relevant to them and to their families, they learn faster. They do even better when they must turn their research into a live radio performance. They must use reading, writing, speaking, and listening--the major language roles--in order to do this. I have also worked with social agencies on helping people prepare for jobs, and my sensitivity to the issue is keen.
