Past experience: Research Director and archivist for Heritage Battle Creek. In this capacity I coordinate all historical research to support the programs of the organization, as well as facilitate access to archival sources for the community and for students and scholars nationwide. I am responsible for conducting and/or supervising all research in preparation of the wide range of published and educational materials created by Heritage Battle Creek, for students as well as for the general public. I also teach a course in historical research methods and local history techniques at Kellogg Community College and Spring Arbor College. I am the founder and editor, as well as a contributing writer, for Heritage Battle Creek, national award-winning journal of local history. The journal publishes articles on the history and heritage of the Battle Creek and Calhoun County area, based on original research, written in a style which is accessible to the general reader. The winter 1999 volume of the Heritage Battle Creek was devoted to the Underground Railroad story in Calhoun County. I also supervised the design of a set of curriculum materials on the Underground Railroad used in the elementary and middle schools in Battle Creek, as well as in a week-long summer camp which taught the area Freedom Saga story.
