This grant will preserve the history, memory, and archives of the Checker Motors Corporation of Kalamazoo. The Checker Cab story is a compelling piece of Michigan history that will be documented and preserved for future generations. A permanent exhibit and a traveling exhibit, relevant artifacts and interpretation, and dissemination of this story through various means will occur. The Checker exhibit is expected to open in May 2010. A special Checker Day at the museum will be held in September 2010 and the traveling exhibit along with all other resources will be announced at that time. A hard cover book developed from recorded interviews as well as a DVD will also be resource outcomes.
