George Rickey: A Retrospective -- (2007) Grant Awarded: March 2007 Type of Grant: Michigan People, Michigan Places ... Our Stories, Our Lives Sponsor: Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park Contact: Joseph Becherer, 616-957-1580, jbecherer@meijergardens.org Website: www.meijergardens.org Award: $15,000 George Rickey achieved critical acclaim in the 1950s and 1960s as a kinetic artist/sculptor and gained following in the art world as well as engineering, math, and science worlds. An art history lecture, physics and aerodynamics lectures, a modern dance performance including talkback, guided galleries walk, gallery tours, and children’s programming are project components. This sculpture tour provides a good opportunity to Michigan residents, as this is the only Midwest venue for this exhibit. The Rickey exhibition will be in place at the Gardens from September 28 through December 31, 2007 with 30 sculptures indoors and 20 sculptures outdoors. |
